Island Fiction:
Legend of the Swan Children NEW
Maureen Marks-Mendonca
‘Mendonca has beautiful, elegant language reminiscent of good magical realism. The imagery is spectacular and the story is very inviting. This is one of my favourite books in the series because of its lilting language.’
Debbie Jacobs, Trinidad & Tobago Guardian
Alex Springfeather is awakened by a mysterious whisper. '...others... disappearing ...,' he hears a strange voice say. Within hours of their landlady’s death, he and his mother, Tia Lucia, are forced to flee their hacienda. When his mother vanishes without a trace, Alex is plunged into an electrifying adventure, which leads him from his hometown on the Caribbean Sea to a mysterious island in the heart of the South American Rainforest. Alex wants only to solve the mystic's riddle and find Tia Lucia before his pursuers find him, but the guardians of the Legend of the Swan Children have other plans for him.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Maureen Marks-Mendonça started storytelling in the schoolyard at age 9. Before becoming a novelist, however, she spent many enjoyable years working and travelling in Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and North America, as a diplomat, teacher, and economist. During this period, she wrote extensively for business and government publications. Eventually, life came full circle. Volunteer work with young people stirred the fires of fiction in her again, and when she finally stepped back into the world between dreams and visions, Alex Springfeather was there, waiting. Legend of the Swan Children is his story.
